SEASIDE PARK, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 59-year-old man was killed by a lightning strike on a New Jersey beach Sunday evening while going out to warn others about an approaching storm.
According to Seaside Park police, at about 7:38 p.m., Patrick Dispoto was found unconscious on J Street Beach.
Responding officers performed CPR on Dispoto and he was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation, Sgt. Andrew Casole of the Seaside Park police confirmed that Dispoto's cause of death was a lightning strike.
The beach was closed at the time that Dispoto was struck and there were no witnesses, according to police. .
