TEANECK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A loose pit bull attacked a mother and her young daughter Monday in New Jersey — its second known assault in five years, police said Thursday.
It happened around 3:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Voorhees Street in Teaneck, as the 26-year-old was taking her 4-year-old daughter from a car seat.
"The mother reported to the officers that a loose, brown-haired pit bull had just attacked her and her daughter," Teaneck Deputy Police Chief Andrew R. McGur told NJ.com in an email.
McGurr said that a contractor working nearby heard the ruckus and was able to chase the dog away.
The mother and daughter were taken to Englewood Health Hospital due to bites and other injuries.
Police said it's the dog's second attack after the same brown-haired pit bull and another dog went after a USPS mail carrier in December 2017 while he was delivering mail to an address.
That victim was taken to Holy Name Medical Center by members of the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps. for his injuries, McGurr added.
The owner at the time was forced to quarantine the pit bull for 10 days, and the case was reported to the Teaneck Health Department for investigation and follow-up.
Following Monday's attack, the owner was issued two summonses and was ordered to quarantine the dog for 10 days. The incident was reported to the health department.
