NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Magnolia Bakery is extending the reach of its iconic desserts through its first venture into the lucrative cannabis industry.

The famous Magnolia Bakery banana pudding and red velvet cake have been turned into cannabis-infused chocolate bars by means of a partnership between the New York City-based dessert maker and Green Thumb Industries, producer of licensed cannabis brand Incredibles edibles.

In a limited-edition release, “incredibles x Magnolia Bakery” have pushed out the cannabis edibles at GTI’s RISE dispensaries in Massachusetts, Nevada and Illinois in order to “[celebrate] the brand’s most iconic, fan-favorite flavors in a new light,” GTI said in a statement.

Wider availability in these three states is expected to follow next week, according to GTI.

“Magnolia Bakery is dedicated to crafting delicious desserts for visitors of all tastes and preferences and can now share our signature flavors with cannabis consumers in three markets,” Sara Gramling, Vice President, PR and Partnerships at Magnolia Bakery, said.

The bakery, which opened its first New York City brick-and-mortar in 1996, now has locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, India and the Middle East.

There are two products in the new limited-edition line, “Swirled Famous Banana Pudding” and “Red Velvet Piece AHHH Cake.” Each are 10-piece chocolate bars with 10mg of THC in each piece.

The red velvet bar also includes 10mg of CBD per piece, a chemical component that does not produce the high associated with cannabis use.

Despite cannabis remaining federally illegal, nearly two dozen states have passed laws to legalize the drug recreationally. New York is included in this list, with New York City reported as the global leader in metric tons of weed consumed, according to an annual global ranking of cities by health resource group CFAH.

Dominic O’Brien, Senior Vice President of Revenue at Green Thumb, wrote in a statement that the company “couldn’t be more excited to partner with Magnolia Bakery on this collaboration, crossing their classic flavors with our commitment to deliver an ‘effect you can expect’.”

“We hope that fans enjoy this all-new way to get baked with Magnolia Bakery,” Gramling added.
