NEW YORK (1010 WINS)-- New York State Police warned the public against phone scams where callers are claiming to be state troopers on Long Island in a statement sent out on Thursday.

In the call, scammers say "they are a member of the New York State Police advising there is a case is pending against them and requesting personal information," the statement read.

The phone number showing up in caller ID is (631) 756-3300 which is the phone number used by the New York State Police, Troop L Headquarters on Long Island.

The NYSP reaffirms that no state police or agency authorized by it will ever ask for money or for personal information over the phone.

"Please do not give any of your personal information over the phone unless you are 100% sure you know who you are speaking with and if you have any hesitation, simply hang up," the police said.
