MIDLAND PARK, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A thief who’d been stealing money from the cars of New Jersey gymgoers turned out to be none other than the gym owner himself, according to police.

Gregory Baiunco, the owner of Hit Zone in Midland Park, was arrested Tuesday after he was allegedly caught rummaging through the car of a client who hid a GoPro camera in the vehicle to catch the mystery bandit.

AJ Tenhoeve said Thursday that in recent weeks he'd returned to his locked car after working out at Hit Zone to find cash missing from the vehicle. He also realized the keys in his gym locker had been messed with.

He wanted to solve the mystery of the missing money, so he set up a small GoPro camera in his car.

“I pull up the GoPro footage, and sure enough you see the owner of the gym open my car door. He closes the door, he probably takes my wallet out,” Tenhoeve said. “About 10 seconds later he opens the door again. You see him come into the frame. He puts the wallet back, makes sure it’s the same way.”

Tenhoeve and his friends all have been victimized, they said. They took the video to cops, who then arrested Baiunco on charges of theft and burglary.

“We watched this guy for seven days straight,” Tenhoeve said. “We were in cars across the street. We set up cameras in the car. And you can watch him on a dozen-plus videos go into my car, my friend’s car, other clients’ cars.”

“He goes right inside, he grabs your keys, he grabs what he can, and he runs back inside,” Tenhoeve said.

Among the alleged victims was Tenhoeve’s friend, who Tenhoeve said had $760 stolen from a work van.

Needless to say, Tenhoeve has canceled his membership to the gym.

And now other customers are coming forward, claiming they were also robbed.
