NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — New Jersey Transit engineers are starting to talk about a strike as they head into their fourth year without a contract.
The engineers said they are paying the price seeing salaries at other commuter railroads far outpace their own.
Union leaders with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen argue that NJ Transit isn't coming to the table.
However, the agency said it sees things differently, saying in a statement that they are "currently engaged in active and ongoing mediation" and that they've come to terms with all their other unions except the BLET.
Despite the threat of a strike, it likely won't happen anytime soon due to a convoluted set of federal rules around railroad strikes.
