Postal worker admits to stealing stimulus checks, credit cards from NJ residents' mail

EAST ORANGE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A former New Jersey postal worker pleaded guilty to stealing credit cards and stimulus checks from residents along his mail route, the Department of Justice announced Monday.

Parrish Brookins, a 30-year-old man from of East Orange, rifled through the mail he was charged with delivering to residents in Montclair and Verona between January and September of 2021 to steal credit cards and stimulus checks.

He activated some of the cards and attempted to make purchases with them. Others he sold. He also sold some of the pandemic stimulus checks that were bound for New Jersey residents in March 2021.

He faces up to five years in prison and a maximum fee of $250,000 when he’s sentenced on Aug. 15.
