PATERSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey religious instructor was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a child he taught, prosecutors said Thursday.
MD Rahman, 49, of Paterson, was arrested after a child reported being sexually abused by him several times between April 2014 and August of this year, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.
Rahman is accused of carrying out the abuse at the child's home in Paterson, while the child was "receiving religious instruction," the release said.
The prosecutor's office didn't immediately provide any additional details about the nature of the religious instruction.
Rahman is currently being held in the Passaic County jail, according to the release. His attorney information wasn't immediately available Thursday.
