The employee, identified as John Molnar, worked in the Middletown Sewerage Authority at 100 Beverly Way in Monmouth County. An attorney for the authority said Molnar was one of the facility’s “most valued employees” in a press release.

The circumstances surrounding Molnar’s death were not released, but the attorney called it a “workplace related incident.”

On Tuesday, police told NJ Advance that they were aware of a person trapped in a confined space at the facility but deferred all questions to the sewerage authority.

According to the The Asbury Park Press, around 2:20 p.m., attempts were made to rescue a worker who fell into a hole at the facility.

“Further comment by the authority is pending a full and transparent investigation,” a press release by the authority said.
