UNION CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A New Jersey woman is suing McDonald’s in Hudson County, New Jersey, claiming that she suffered severe burns when hot coffee spilled into her lap while at the drive-through window.

The woman, 34, went to McDonalds on Sept. 25, and ordered herself a cup of coffee at the drive-through window. She was picking up her coffee and food at the store located at John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Union City.

She filed the lawsuit on the same day in the Superior Court of Hudson County, saying McDonald's was responsible for the incident.

She claimed that McDonald’s was not able to properly secure the lid to the coffee cop and was negligent in packaging and delivering it to her.

As a result of the incident, she had endured scarring and suffered “injuries, both of body and mind” as stated in the lawsuit, reported by NJ.com.

The incident also resulted in expenses including medical bills and lost work time, according to the lawsuit.
