CLIFTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — New Jersey officials launched an investigation early Sunday following a fatal hit-and-run crash, officials said.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and city police Chief Thomas Rinaldi, just before 12:30 a.m., 35-year-old Dharmesh Patel was crossing the westbound side of Route 46 when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes.
Patel was then struck by a second vehicle operated by a 52-year-old man who pulled over and remained at the scene, police said.
The man was rushed to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson, where he was pronounced dead at 4:24 a.m., according to Valdes and Rinaldi.
No description of the car that struck Patel was available and as of Monday morning no arrests had been made, officials said.
