
WESTBURY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Police arrested three teen boys for robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint on Long Island, Nassau County officials announced Friday.
According to detectives, at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, a 72-year-old man was driving a taxi, was dropping off the three boys at 1504 Old Country Rd. in Westbury.
When they reached their destination, one of the teens displayed what appeared to be a firearm and took money from the victim’s pocket.
The teens then fled the scene on foot.
Responding officers located the boys - ages 15, 13 and 13, nearby. They were taken into custody without incident.
An imitation firearm was recovered from one of the teens.
The 15-year-old boy was charged with robbery and for violating Nassau County's new Mask Transparency Act, which makes it illegal to wear a mask "for the purposes of concealing an individual's identity in public places." He will be arraigned on Friday, Dec. 27.
One 13-year-old boy was charged with robbery and menacing and will be arraigned on Friday, Dec. 27.
The second 13-year-old boy was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a person under 16 and will be arraigned at family court.
