
VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Queens man was arrested for injuring an officer during a struggle to escape arrest outside a Long Island Macy's store on Thursday, police said.
At 3:54 p.m., Oswald Bryan, 51, of Jamaica, entered a Macy’s located at 1000 Green Acres Rd. in Valley Stream, authorities said.
According to detectives, Bryan selected various merchandise then entered the dressing room and concealed the items in a reusable bag.
Bryan then attempted to pass all points of purchase and exit the store without rendering payment, but was met by officers and asset protection, officials said.
Officers attempted to place Bryan into custody but he attempted to flee the scene and after a brief struggle, officers were able to secure Bryan.
An officer sustained an injury during the course of the arrest and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Bryan was charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and petit larceny.
He will be arraigned on Friday.
