SOUTH FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Officials on Tuesday arrested a 28-year-old man accused of making terroristic threats at a spa and Mormon church on Long Island.

According to detectives, just after 1 p.m. Besart Astafa, of Deer Park, entered a spa, located at 34 Hempstead Turnpike in South Farmingdale and began making terroristic threats.


Customers were able to intervene and restrain the defendant until police arrived, where they arrested Astafa, officials said.

During the investigation, it was determined Astafa was also responsible for a similar incident that occurred at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 13.

Astafa entered the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 160 Washington Ave. in Plainview, police said.

He began to assault an employee of the church and made terroristic threats.

The victim was able to call police, but Astafa fled the scene.

Astafa was charged with making a terroristic threat, assault, harassment, criminal mischief, and menacing.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 16, at First District Court.
