NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police arrested a man on Long Island after he allegedly killed a dog while threatening a relative during a FaceTime call earlier this month, officials said.
According to officials, the 23-year-old man found the Chihuahua and took it into his home on May 9 after it had escaped from its home in Central Islip.
Authorities said the unnamed suspect allegedly strangled the dog to death on June 1 while he was on a video call with a family member who police say he threatened.
The suspect threw out the dog's remains, which were found by authorities last Friday at a waste transfer facility in Holbrook, according to Suffolk County police.
Officials charged the suspect with aggravated cruelty to animals and aggravated harassment and transported him to Stony Brook University Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
An investigation is ongoing.
