ALBANY, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Grab your chart, because the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles announced on Wednesday that it is releasing a series of custom plates featuring the 12 zodiac signs.
A bull for Taurus, a crab for Cancer and a lion for Leo are some of the recognizable images of the 12 zodiac signs used on the license plates, and images of the phases of the moon line the bottom edge of the plate.
A license plate costs $60 to purchase, not including the additional annual cost of $31.25, according to the DMV. A personalized plate will run $91.25 with a $62.50 annual fee.
“Custom plates are a way for New Yorkers to express their many interests,” DMV Commissioner and Sagittarius Mark J.F. Schroeder said. “The DMV recognizes that every customer is unique, and we support that by having a variety of custom plate options to choose from.”
The DMV has over 200 custom license plates representing a vast array of professions, interests and causes, from veteran’s plates to regions of the state to sports teams.
Custom plates can be ordered on the DMV website, by mail or by calling the Custom Plates office 518-402-4838, and are available with the International Symbol of Access.
