Over 8.5 million COVID-19 shots now given in NY state, 15.8% fully vaccinated

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday that New York state has now administered more than 8.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses.

The figure included 219,554 doses administered statewide since Friday and more than 1 million doses in the past week.


Cuomo said Friday that more than 3 million New Yorkers had been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. The number was at 3,155,413 on Saturday, an increase of 120,613 people from Friday.

So far, 28.7% of New Yorkers have received at least one vaccine dose and 15.8% are fully vaccinated.

"As we fortify our capacity, we are reaching new milestones more and more frequently," Cuomo said in a statement. "This is a testament to the dedication of our providers across the state, and to our ongoing efforts to reach every eligible New Yorker and bring the vaccine to every community."

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Saturday that 3,705,428 vaccine doses had been administered in New York City so far.

The state reported another 8,201 cases on Friday out of 259,945 tests. The single-day positivity rate was 3.15% and the seven-day positivity was 3.41%.

Hospitalizations declined by 25 patients to 4,578. The number of patients in intensive care also fell by 17 to 896, while the number of intubated patients declined by six to 552.

There were another 76 coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the state's pandemic death toll to 40,266, according to state data. Johns Hopkins University put the state's death toll at 49,848 on Saturday.

There were another 3,903 COVID-19 cases in New York City on Saturday. The city's seven-day positivity rate was 4.26%, according to state data. De Blasio, citing city data, said the city's seven-day positivity rate was 6.41%.
