NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A police officer rescued an injured swan after it ended up on a Long Island highway, authorities said.
The waterbird found itself in an eastbound lane on Sunrise Highway in Oakdale last week, Suffolk County police said.
Not long after, Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol Officer Matthew Cody managed to scoop the swan out of harm’s way and into his car, the department said.
“The swan was no easy patient, but with assistance from several good Samaritans, the officer was able to contain the swan in the back of his police vehicle,” the department wrote.
Cody took the bird to Sweet Briar Nature Center in Smithtown for treatment, police said.
