RAMAPO, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Yeshiva school bus ran off a Rockland County road Thursday morning, leading to a path of destruction that culminated in a crash into a home, injuring seven children and the bus driver.
The crash happened just before 9 a.m. on North Southgate Drive in New Hempstead.
According to Ramapo Police, the bus went off the road, scraping against a telephone pole and striking a tree before traveling through a driveway and colliding with two empty cars.
The bus, which had 22 people on board, then continued down a grassy hill, striking multiple trees and ultimately colliding with the house.

Video broadcast by television news stations and photos posted on social media showed the yellow school bus resting against the house alongside an overturned car.
A path of torn up ground and broken tree limbs stretched up a hill behind the bus. The impact appeared to have crushed the engine compartment on the bus and torn away part of the home's siding.
Five of the seven children who were hurt were evaluated for minor bumps and bruises. Two 5-year-old boys had more serious injuries, although none were life-threatening.
Police said the 37-year-old driver was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with a minor abrasion to his head. He was tested and showed no signs of impairment.
All of the other students were taken back to the school to be evaluated, WABC 7 reported.
"Our thoughts are with the children & their families as we pray for speedy recovery," said Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht in a tweet Wednesday, adding that an investigation is underway by police.
The town of Ramapo is home to a large Orthodox Jewish population, and the bus was carrying young boys to one of the area’s private Jewish schools.
