NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Sunday Suffolk and Sullivan counties are now qualified to apply for federal assistance after the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida devastated the Northeast, killing at least 18 people in New York.

Residents and local governments within the counties will be eligible to apply for federal assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

"We are working tirelessly with our partners at all levels of government to ensure that families and communities recovering from the effects of Ida get the help they need to rebuild," Hochul said in a statement.

Bronx, Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond and Westchester counties were previously entitled as well for individual aid.

"We still have work to do, and with Suffolk and Sullivan counties now also qualifying for federal funding, I want to thank President Biden and FEMA for their continued support and for providing these critical resources to New Yorkers in need," she added.

Individuals or residents within these counties can apply for federal assistance with this guidance from the state.
