NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- The coldest temps of the season are set to freeze the New York City area Friday and Saturday, as an arctic cold front ushers in single-digit lows and RealFeels below -15.
Blustery conditions were making an already frigid Friday even more brutal.
The extreme cold settled in throughout the day as temps were set to plunge from the 20s in the morning to the teens in the evening and to the single digits by Friday night, according to AccuWeather.

Lows are forecast to bottom out at about 6 degrees in the city on a clear overnight, with RealFeels dropping out at a dangerous -17.
Wind gusts of up to 45 mph will make the cold all the more brutal. New York City Emergency Management and the National Weather Service urged people to stay inside or look out for signs of hypothermia if they do go out.
It will be even colder in the New Jersey and Hudson Valley suburbs, where the mercury may fall below zero and RealFeels could dive to -20.
A wind chill advisory has been issued by the NWS for the Hudson Valley, southeast Connecticut and eastern Long Island.

Saturday will also be very cold, but not as windy, with sunshine and some clouds.
Saturday’s high will be 26 by day’s end before temps continue to overnight into Sunday. Still, prepare for RealFeels in the single digits and teens throughout the day.

The big turnaround will come on Sunday, which will be much milder and partly sunny. The high will be 45.
The warmup continues all next week. Highs will be 48 on Monday and Tuesday before reaching the low 50s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, when rain enters the forecast.
