NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Spring officially arrives on Tuesday—but it won't feel like it, with chilly temps and windy weather in the forecast most of the week.

The vernal equinox—when the Earth's axis and its orbit line up so both the northern and southern hemispheres get an equal amount of sunlight—will happen at 11:06 p.m. ET Tuesday.

The equinox will mark the beginning of spring, and increasing daylight, for New York and the rest of the northern hemisphere.

But there won't be any spring fever to start the season. Highs will be slightly below average most of the workweek—in the 40s instead of the average of about 50 degrees. Winds will make it feel even colder.

It's a flip from recent days, when temps were well above average, reaching 70 on Thursday. The cold snap could threaten Central Park's cherry blossom blooms, which began blooming during the unseasonable warmth.

Tuesday is windy and quite chilly in Manhattan, with a mix of sun and clouds. The high will be 48, but RealFeels will barely budge out of the 30s.

The warmest day of the week will be Wednesday, when the high is forecast to be 56 under partly cloudy skies. The wind will again push RealFeels much lower—it will only feel like the 40s most of the day and even reach the 30s.

Thursday will be blustery and colder with a mix of sun and clouds. The high will be 44, but RealFeels will only be in the 30s in the afternoon.

To end the workweek, Friday will be chilly but less brutal, with plenty of sunshine and subsiding winds. The high will be 43.

The weekend looks fairly wet, as showers are in the forecast Saturday and possibly again on Sunday, according to AccuWeather.

The rain should arrive Friday night and continue into Saturday, when the high will be 53.

Sunday may feature some sun if the stormy weather moves out quickly enough, but there's also a chance the overnight rain will linger. The high will be around 50.
