HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- An 88-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition Monday after she was repeatedly stabbed by a 32-year-old man who struggled with cops before his arrest, Nassau County police said.
The victim and her attacker were arguing in Hempstead around 6 p.m. when the dispute escalated and he stabbed her multiple times with a knife, according to police.
The relationship between the victim and the stabber wasn't immediately known, nor was the nature of the argument or where exactly it took place.
The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical but stable condition.
An investigation led Hempstead officers to Greenwich Street, where they located and briefly struggled with the suspect before taking him into custody, police said.
The suspect, identified as Teron Ringgold, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as well as resisting arrest and menacing a police officer.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
