With the 2022 NFL Draft concluding on Saturday, Vegas took no time to start setting the odds for some of the newly selected players to win awards during their first season in the league.
According to BetMGM, both Aidan Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux are the co-favorites to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2022.
Although you may be thinking, where does the first overall pick in the draft land? Travon Walker falls right behind both Hutchinson and Thibodeaux as the third most likely player to win the award. The reason for this is due in large part to how NFL scouts projected Walker as a player with a lot of talent and potential, but still in need of some development.
Here is a full list of the favorites to win defensive rookie of the year:
Hutchinson +450
Thibodeaux +450
Walker +700
Quay Walker +800
Jermaine Johnson II +900
Derek Stingley Jr. +900
Devin Lloyd +1000
Ahmad Gardner +1000
Kyle Hamilton +1100
Just for context, the last three guys to win the award (Micah Parsons, Chase Young and Nick Bosa) earned it by getting to the quarterback on a consistent basis. This is clearly reflected in the odds with four out of the five players being Edge rushers.
If either Hutchinson or Thibodeaux wants to win the award, they will likely need to put up double-digit sacks, become an invaluable part of their teams' defense and cause nightmares in the heads of offensive coordinators across the entire league.
