BT was flying solo on Monday’s midday, and he just had to talk about the play that’s all over social media today: whatever it was Kenny Golladay was doing on Matt Breida’s run during the first series of Sunday’s preseason finale loss to the Jets.
And that quickly turned into a rant about how, at this point, Golladay seems like a bust for Big Blue.
“It wasn’t a route, it wasn’t a block…I mean, you want to talk about an atrocious, almost completely disengaged, uninterested summer? Wow, Kenny Golladay, what a headache!” BT ranted. “Thanks Gettleman! $72 million for that?”
BT noted how when asked about Golladay’s roster security, Brian Daboll was non-committal – an answer, he admitted, may be a stock answer in case he’s asked similar questions in the future – but didn’t exactly see those words as a vote of confidence.
“It’s not a guarantee, but when you bring in a guy a year ago, and he’s in his prime and making big bucks, and you’re asked if he’s going to make the team and you don’t say yes, I find that interesting,” Tierney said.
BT thinks Golladay will “be a headache” for Giants fans if he stays…and Brandon doesn’t seem to think much of the receiver in either case.
“He just has no separation, and when you watch him – I don’t just mean in the game, I’ve seen a lot of video during drills this summer. You can tell me it’s just a drill, but it’s a drill for a guy with a new coaching staff who really has to prove something in this city this year, and he’s running half-hearted!”
Pete Hoffman weighed in on videos comparing Golladay and second-round pick Wan’Dale Robinson and how Robinson seems to be out-working Golladay, which is troubling.
“You can just see that Wan’Dale takes it so serious and Golladay is just chilling,” Hoff said, “but it’s bad because this is like Gettleman’s last hurrah, and he’s probably going to be on the team next year too because of the cap hit.”
Maybe, says BT.
“You’re not going to cut him now, but if he has two completely empty seasons, and you’re trying to get this new culture going?” BT asked. “I don’t know how he is in the locker room, and I don’t want to be unfair to him and call him an impediment – some guys have been, and we know that, and we’ve seen it with our teams, when there’s a guy who’s not buying in and he’s in the way of trying to start over – but I am saying it’s very alarming.”
And the problem, in Tierney’s eyes, is that Golladay just doesn’t seem to be aware of his situation, even if he’s trying to drown out all the noise.
“Where’s the awareness? You can’t always react to what people say about you, because you can’t placate everybody, nor should you try,” BT said, “but when the scouting report about Golladay coming off his first season in New York is awful…don’t you think you’d see a little more pep in the summer? We’ve seen none, and that’s not good.”
