Geo Baker may have one last Rutgers run in him after all.
Three months after declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft, Baker announced on Twitter Wednesday that he will instead return to Rutgers for his final season of eligibility.
“Dear Rutgers nation: these last four years have been nothing but the best years of my life,” Baker said in a video posted on his Twitter feed. “Although last year was historic, the way it ended still doesn’t sit well. We still have some unfinished business to take care of, and I’m excited to get to it with Rutgers nation by my side…I’m back!”
In the video, Baker also reveals a custom Scarlet Knights jersey, being made in “celebration of the newly-made rules for athletes to profit off their image, name, and likeness.”
Baker was technically a senior last year, and averaged 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game to help Rutgers reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1991. However, he is returning to school thanks to the NCAA’s decision to allow some players an extra year of eligibility due to cancellations and changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wednesday was the last day for declared underclassmen and eligible seniors to withdraw their names from draft consideration. Ron Harper Jr., who declared early, had not made a decision as of this writing, although neither he nor Baker received an invite to the NBA Scouting Combine.
