Many were anxious to hear what Buck Showalter had to say about his request for Joe Musgrove to be checked for foreign substances during Sunday’s Wild Card Series contest.

Asked about it after the game, Showalter seemed to point to an elevated spin rate from Musgrove, but made it clear that it was not a move he regretted, and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

Here’s what Showalter had to say:

“We are privy to a lot of things that went in that direction,” Showalter said. “I love him as a pitcher and always have. That’s the only thing I kind of feel bad about, but it won’t cast anything. He’s too good of a pitcher.Without getting into a lot of things, the spin rate and some different things that I’m sure you’re all aware of…that was about it.

“I'm charged with doing what's best for the New York Mets. However it might make me look, I'm going to do that every time and live with the consequences. I’m not here to not hurt somebody’s feelings. I’m gonna do what’s best for our players and the New York Mets. There were some pretty obvious reasons why it was necessary.”
