Luis Rojas provided an update on Carlos Carrasco prior to Saturday’s spring training game, and the outlook remains the same, with Carrasco slated to play catch on Sunday since experiencing elbow soreness earlier this month.
“Everything’s well for him to play catch tomorrow,” Rojas said. “I saw him earlier this morning and have connected with him every day, and everything is just going accordingly for him to play catch.”
Carrasco initially felt elbow soreness after throwing live batting practice two weeks ago, something Rojas said was “nothing to concerning” for the team. The Mets pitcher is still waiting to make his spring debut, but it looks like he’s moving closer to that point.
“When we talked about this earlier, we mentioned that it’s something that he’s gone through before and he’s gone through the treatment with the medical staff, so everything, the timeline is for him to throw tomorrow, so he’s good for that, and we’ll see what the next step after that is,” Rojas said.
Carrasco didn’t undergo an MRI or any other tests on the elbow, which Rojas said has caused Carrasco some soreness in previous spring trainings.
In other Mets injury news, backup catcher Tomas Nido was scratched from the lineup before Friday’s game against the Marlins for undisclosed reasons, but Rojas revealed that Nido has fouled a ball off his leg, but he appears to have avoided a serious injury.
“Tomas is OK, actually,” Rojas said. “The day before yesterday, he fouled one off his ankle, his left ankle, and he was taken for an MRI and everything…but he’s OK. We’re approaching him day-to-day. He should be fine. We’re looking at him probably playing [Sunday], but he won’t catch.”
