It was a unique night for the SNY broadcast team on Friday, as they were forced into a different broadcast booth for the Mets’ series opener against the A’s because a possum was on the loose in the typical visiting broadcast booth at Oakland Coliseum.

Gary Cohen told the story during the action of Friday’s game, how a well-known possum lives somewhere in the walls of the visiting broadcast booth, has eluded all the traps that have been set, and when the A’s returned from their road trip before welcoming the Mets, the possum was still roaming around in its new home.

So, as the Mets broadcast team went into the booth to set things up for the series, the booth stunk of the possum’s….remains, so Cohen and Ron Darling were forced to set up in an alternate booth.

The alternate booth had a pole unfortunately placed right in front of Cohen’s eyesight of the field, so he had to spend the game leaning and bobbing to get a clear view of the action.

Like a pro, Cohen and Darling handled it well, and the Mets cruised to a dominant 17-run victory.
