At least RJ Barrett had a chance to play a big role in March Madness, averaging 20.3 points per game in the 2019 NCAA Tournament for Duke. The same can't quite be said for Knicks teammate and rookie star Immanuel Quickley, who only averaged 2.8 points per game in the 2019 NCAA Tournament before the pandemic stripped him of his chance at a follow-up in the 2020 season. Kentucky would have been good, too, seeing as the 2019-20 Wildcats finished with a 25-6 record to land atop the SEC.
But in 2021, both Duke and Kentucky, as strange as it sounds, were on the outside looking in. It's the first year that neither squad has participated in the tournament since the 1976 bracket took shape, according to Bryan Kalbrosky of USA Today.
They've still got to fill out their brackets like the rest of us, though, and the Knicks social media team captured just that.
Fellow Knicks guard Theo Pinson had much more fun, I'd assume, seeing as his North Carolina Tar Heels are a No. 8 seed and are squaring off against the No. 9 Wisconsin Badgers on Friday night in a game that they're favored to win, if only by a point or two. Pinson played in four NCAA Tournaments, including when he and his Tar Heels teammates were successful in taking down Gonzaga in the national championship, where he chipped in six points and nine rebounds.
Here's wishing you, Quickley, Barrett and Pinson the best of luck with your brackets and a (hopefully) memorable March Madness!
