Aside from waiting for their GRAMMY trophies for Best Alternative Music Album And Best Alternative Music Performance to arrive in the mail following this year's big wins, Hester and Rhian of Wet Leg were able to enjoy some time off the road around the holidays, getting in some much-needed beans and toast, which we've already spoken with them about at length. We did learn a bit more about Hester's side gig, creating her own custom jewelry.
"I guess I've just swapped around from making jewelry full-time to having music as a hobby, and it's kind of flipped around... and we're not home very much now," she explains. Crocheting and knitting have also proven to be popular between the two, although Rhian admits she "gave up" once their tour wound down. "I just didn't have my tutor," she says of Hester. "We had like a month off and I fell off the wagon."
"I haven't done that also," Hester admits. "I think maybe it's easier to do when you're with someone else who's doing it," she adds. "Maybe we'll get back on it. I tried knitting the sleeve for my jumper -- and I had to do it like three times. I think that's put me off a bit, because I'm just failing, flailing."
Now fully enjoying the success of their 2022 debut self-titled album and hit single "Chaise Longue," Rhian says they're looking forward to writing more songs with their band, which wasn't yet a fully-formed unit when they made their debut. "I think it's really exciting for us to get to do that and have the opportunity to do that... I think we're just gonna cocoon ourselves..."
"Self-indulge," Hester adds.
