Former U.S. Attorney Bill McSwain joined The Rich Zeoli Show on TalkRadio 1210 WPHT discussing the importance of the Philadelphia District Attorney primary between DA Larry Krasner and challenger Carlos Vega.
“Even if you don’t live in Philadelphia but you live in Pennsylvania it’s an important race because Philadelphia is an extremely important city, obviously, to the state’s success. You can’t just wall off Philadelphia in its borders and act like it doesn’t affect the rest of the state.”
McSwain continued, “We’ve seen some of these effects of Krasner bleed out certainly into the collar counties of Philadelphia. We want to make sure that Philadelphia, tomorrow hopefully, will begin to save itself.”
McSwain also voiced concern to Zeoli what a second term for Krasner in Philadelphia could mean.
“When I was U.S. attorney, I literally connected to dots from the people who Krasner was either releasing from prison or was just keeping out on the streets by not pursuing probation violations, not pursuing charges that should be pursued against these individuals. And those people are the ones who commit the vast majority of the murders and the shootings in Philadelphia.”
McSwain continued, “Unfortunately if Krasner is re-elected, we’re going to see more of the same. Frankly, Rich, it could get a lot worse. As bad as it is right now, it could get worse. Especially if he thinks he’s emboldened and therefore he’s going to double down on his failed policies.”
The former U.S. Attorney also addressed the speculation that he is on the shortlist to be the Republican candidate for Pennsylvania Governor.
“I love public service and I want to look for opportunities to continue to serve and so, we’ll see what the future holds. But I’m very concerned about our state, I’m very concerned about the leadership of our state and I think we need a change. That’s something that definitely come through loud and clear to me in my travels across the state.”
