A recent video has gone viral on social media showing a Costco shopper returning a sofa they bought that they decided they didn’t like after two and a half years.
The shopper, Jackie Nguyen, decided to bring her Costco sofa back last month after she decided it wasn’t the right fit after all, and she documented her experience with the wholesaler on social media.
“I just didn’t like it anymore. We just don’t like the color anymore,” Nguyen said in a TikTok video.
In the weeks since posting the video, Nguyen has received more than 3 million views and thousands of likes, though she has turned the comments off on the video.
In the TikTok, she explained that she did not have her original receipt for the couch but recalled when she initially purchased it. This helped the Costco retail clerk process the transaction and issue a full refund.
“I told her the date I bought it — she looked it up in the computer, told me exactly which one it was. That was it. She asked me if there was anything wrong with it ... I said I just didn’t like it anymore,” Nguyen explained, adding, “They gave us a full refund to his card, so yeah, it worked.”
Many were left perplexed by the story from Nguyen, though she explained in a follow-up post to TikTok that she had asked a clerk at her Costco if they would accept the return, to which she got the answer she wanted.
Part of the reason she was able to make the return was the company’s policy.
“We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell and will refund your purchase price,” the company states.
There are product exceptions listed in the policy, including electronics, diamonds, alcohol, and cigarettes, but there is no clear timeline for when shoppers must make their returns.
Now, Nguyen is encouraging her followers to get their furniture from Costco.
“Buy your furniture from Costco, girl. You can return it when you don’t like it anymore,” she said.
