The founder of Spanx got chills and they were multiplying when she became the proud new owner of Olivia Newton-John’s pants from ‘Grease.’
Sara Blakey, who founded the shapewear line in 2000, won the skintight satin pants in an auction on Saturday for $162,500, according to Fox News.
Blakely appeared on CBS This Morning to reveal her newest sartorial piece of film history. She posted a cut-up clip of her appearance on her Instagram account.
“I have been the biggest fan of Olivia since I was a little girl, since ‘Grease’ came out,” Blakely said on the appearance.
“I had to own them as the Spanx founder,” she added.
Blakely said that she hired Newton-John, who she called “the O.G. of black leggings,” to sing at her wedding over a decade ago.
“The 8 year old girl in me is flipping out!” Blakely captioned her post of the video.
“When I heard her iconic leggings from the movie were up for auction and all the proceeds were going to charity, I had to bid. Well, I WON!” she continued in the post.
Blakely said the faux-leather leggings influenced the concept of Spanx.
“These pants are not only iconic but they were the inspiration behind the @spanx faux leather leggings and will proudly hang in our office,” she wrote.
Also auctioned off on Saturday was the leather jacket that Newton-John wore in the finale of the 1978 film, in which she played Sandy Olsson. The jacket sold for $243,200. The items were among hundreds up for bid from the 71-year-old actress’s personal collection. All proceeds went towards Newton-John’s Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Australia.
Newton-John has battled cancer three times since 1992. She established her charity in 2008.
