What Howard does next remains a bit unclear amid the coronavirus pandemic. There won't be a minor league season, so the traditional path of reporting to rookie ball isn't an option.
"Nothing is confirmed right now, so I'm not sure exactly what will happen next," Howard said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Monday morning. "For now, I think I'll be at home still training. But sometime I think in August or September, I'll probably get out to Arizona most likely and get a mini-camp in and play some games probably. Things, I feel like, will pick up in August or September. But for now, I'll still be home."
Howard hit .421 with 11 doubles, four triples and three homers in 35 games as a junior at Mount Carmel in 2019. The coronavirus led to the cancellation of his senior season.
"It's a crazy time," Howard said. "I'm looking forward to finally getting out to Arizona and getting back to playing. I miss the game."
