(670 The Score) Cubs backup catcher Victor Caratini will be sidelined for four to six weeks with a fractured left hamate bone, the team announced. The Cubs placed him on the 10-day injured list Friday morning.

Caratini suffered the injury early in his at-bat in the seventh inning of the Cubs' 2-0 win against the Pirates at Wrigley Field on Thursday evening. Despite the discomfort, he finished his at-bat and hit an RBI double that gave Chicago a 2-0 lead. Caratini then didn't return defensively for the top of the eighth inning, with Willson Contreras replacing him.

Caratini was off to a hot starting, hitting .588 (10-of-17) with one homer and six RBIs. He was 2-of-3 with two doubles Thursday.

In Caratini's place, the Cubs called up catcher Taylor Davis from Triple-A Iowa. Davis has hit .278 (5-for-18) in 13 games with the Cubs across the past two seasons.
