CHICAGO (670 The Score) -- Bears running back David Montgomery returned strong from a scary-looking neck injury that he suffered in the second quarter of a 17-13 win against the Giants on Sunday afternoon, rushing for some key yards late in the game.

Montgomery was flipped upside-down on a carry with 11:52 remaining in the second quarter, landing awkwardly on his head. He was down for several minutes before walking off under his own power and being evaluated on the Bears' sideline. Montgomery went to the locker room for further evaluation before emerging after halftime with a helmet strapped on, and he then returned to action.

“Really, just grateful that I was OK," Montgomery told reporters after the game. "Trying to move my neck around, make sure that I was all right. When it happened, it was kind of scary. I knew I was fine when I was able to move my neck. I was still conscious. I was fine.”

The second-year back Montgomery had 16 carries for 82 yards while adding three catches for 45 yards and a touchdown, which came on a 28-yard strike from quarterback Mitchell Trubisky on the Bears' opening drive.

“I had like a little wide route," Montgomery said. "My protection really wasn’t there. Mitch was beginning to scramble. I was able to get in his vision, throw my hands up. He trusted me and I made a play from there.”

Montgomery rushed 11 times for 59 yards in the second half, helping the Bears grind out the clock as they held on to the victory. Seeking a greater commitment to the running game this season, the Bears rushed 32 times for 135 yards Sunday.
