(670 The Score) Bears kicker Eddy Pineiro is making progress in recovering from a groin injury that has sidelined him to start the season, but it's not clear when he will be able to return.

Pineiro is eligible to be activated from injured reserve this week, part of a change to the NFL rule for 2020. Prior to practice Wednesday afternoon, Bears coach Matt Nagy was still awaiting further information on Pineiro's status from the team's training staff. The 25-year-old Pineiro suffered the groin injury during preseason camp in August.

"They're still working through some things, I don't know if we're there yet right now this week," Nagy said of Pineiro.

"Things are definitely getting better, I just don't know good enough for this week yet. I can't say that for sure."

Veteran Cairo Santos replaced Pineiro on the active roster and has served as the Bears' kicker. The 28-year-old Santos is 4-for-6 on field-goal attempts this season.

The Bears are required to release an injury report Wednesday afternoon. They host the Colts this Sunday at Soldier Field.
