(670 The Score) The Bears on Tuesday placed running back Khalil Herbert (hip) on injured reserve, which requires a minimum four-game absence.
Herbert suffered the hip injury while returning a kickoff late in the Bears' 31-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday. Coach Matt Eberflus declined to share specifics on the injury when asked Monday afternoon at Halas Hall.
Herbert has rushed 108 times for 643 yards and four touchdowns this season. He has worked in a complementary role alongside lead running back David Montgomery. Rookie Trestan Ebner could see an increased opportunity now in the Bears' backfield.
The Bears claimed cornerback Justin Layne off waivers from the Giants. A third-round pick to the Steelers in 2019, Layne has played a key role in special teams during his parts of four NFL seasons. Chicago waived defensive lineman Kingsley Jonathan from its active roster.
