(WBBM NEWSRADIO -- The city of Chicago's hail-Mary effort to keep the Bears at Soldier Field is still up in the air.
Mayor Johnson's office on Thursday released a joint statement with Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren, saying both men talked this week to continue discussions they started last month.
“We plan to have regular dialogue with each other and across our respective staffs as we work together to meet the needs of the citizens of Chicago and Bears fans,” the statement said in part.
Last month, the mayor told 670 The Score that he wanted to keep the team in the city, saying next year's Democratic National Convention shows that Chicago is still a desirable destination. That could mean finding the team a new site for their games within the city instead of Soldier Field.
Competition has heated up. The Bears are also weighing invitations from Aurora, Naperville, Waukegan and now Richton Park -- as tax-related talks bog down with Arlington Heights about the old Arlington Park property that the team bought last fall.
