(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The GOAT keeps setting records.
A game-worn jersey of Bulls legend Michael Jordan from the 1998 NBA Finals sold for a record-breaking $10.1 million at a New York auction Thursday, Soethby’s Auction House announced.
Jordan wore the jersey in Game 1 of those NBA Finals, his last series with Chicago in a season known as “The Last Dance." The No. 23 red visiting Bulls jersey fetched more than double than what Soethby's initially thought it would get.
The auction house declared it the most expensive piece of game-worn sports memorabilia ever sold. It surpassed the $9.3 million of the jersey that the Argentinian soccer great Diego Mardonna wore in the famous 1986 World Cup quarterfinal match against England, in which he scored the “hand of God” goal.
