(670 The Score) The Cubs have claimed left-hander Anthony Kay off waivers from the Blue Jays, they announced Friday.
Kay, 27, posted a 5.48 ERA in 28 appearances for Toronto across the past four seasons. He made only one appearance for the Blue Jays in 2022 due to a left shoulder injury. Toronto designated Kay for assignment last week. The Mets selected Kay in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs designated infielder Alfonso Rivas for assignment. He hit .235 with three homers, 25 RBIs and a .628 OPS in 101 games for Chicago in 2022.
