Keegan Thompson suspended 3 games, David Ross 1 game after beanball exchange with Brewers

(670 The Score) Cubs right-hander Keegan Thompson has been suspended three games and manager David Ross for one game after Thompson was deemed by MLB to have intentionally hit the Brewers’ Andrew McCutchen with a pitch in the eighth inning of Chicago’s 9-0 win against Milwaukee on Saturday.

Thompson and Ross each received undisclosed fines as well amid the fallout of a game in which five batters were hit and the benches cleared. No punches were thrown.

The Cubs won two of three games against the Brewers in their opening series. Chicago visits Pittsburgh on Tuesday to start a two-game series.

Thompson is scheduled to start serving his suspension Tuesday, but that could be pushed back if he chooses to appeal. Ross will serve his suspension Tuesday.

Thompson had a 3.38 ERA in 32 appearances in 2021. He’s unscored upon in 2 2/3 innings this season.
