Brown, 41, was the Tampa Bay Rays’ minor league hitting coordinator for the past two seasons. Prior to that, Brown had been the head coach at Nova Southeastern University for nine seasons.

Brown replaces Anthony Iapoce, who wasn’t offered a new contract by the Cubs after three seasons on the job.

“We are really excited to bring Greg on after the interview process,” Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said. “He has a really well-rounded background moving from being an area scout to college coach and the last couple of years a hitting coordinator with Tampa, an organization who does a really great job of developing hitting. We are really excited to bring him on board.”

Chicago is also looking for a new assistant hitting after Chris Valaika left to become Cleveland’s hitting coach.
