Cubs place backup catcher P.J. Higgins on 10-day injured list

(670 The Score) The Cubs have placed backup catcher P.J. Higgins on the 10-day injured list with a right forearm strain, they announced before hosting the Cardinals on Friday afternoon.

Higgins has struggled mightily at the plate, going 1-of-23 with a .163 OPS in nine games this season.

Catcher Jose Lobaton has been selected from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. Chicago also designated right-hander Dakota Chalmers for assignment.

Lobaton, 36, is a career .215 hitter across nine MLB seasons. Chalmers had a 9.49 ERA at the Double-A level this season.
