Cubs place Marcus Stroman on injured list, demote Frank Schwindel to Triple-A Iowa

(670 The Score) The Cubs placed right-hander Marcus Stroman on the injured list and demoted first baseman Frank Schwindel to Triple-A Iowa amid a series of roster moves Sunday.

Stroman was sent to the injured list without a designation, which almost certainly means it’s a COVID-related. Because he didn’t hit the injury list with a designation, he’ll be eligible to come off of it at any time once deemed healthy.

Stroman is 1-3 with a 5.13 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in five starts. He had been schedule to start when the Cubs host the Dodgers on Sunday night. Left-hander Justin Steele (1-3), 5.50 ERA) will start in his place.

Schwindel is hitting .209 with two homers, nine RBIs and a .558 OPS in 25 games.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs recalled right-hander Adrian Sampson from Triple-A Iowa. He has a 3.66 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in five starts at Triple-A this season.
