Martin, 36, had posted a 4.31 ERA in 34 relief appearances for the Cubs this season after joining the team on a one-year deal in March.

McKinstry, 27, has hit .210 with a .669 OPS in 74 games across three MLB seasons. He was 1-for-11 in 10 games in limited action for Los Angeles this season. He also hit .335 with a .904 OPS in 48 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season.

The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday, and the Cubs are expected to be busy ahead of it. All-Star catcher Willson Contreras is a near lock to be moved, and closer David Robertson is likely to be traded as well, among others.
