Chicago traded right-hander Cory Abbott to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations, the club announced. The Cubs recently designated Abbott for assignment. He had a 6.75 ERA and 1.79 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings across eight appearances for the Cubs in 2021.
Abbott, 26, had posted a 4.50 ERA in six innings at Triple-A Iowa this season.
On Wednesday night, the Cubs traded right-hander Jesse Chavez and cash considerations to the Braves for left-hander Sean Newcomb.
