(670 The Score) The Cubs acquired veteran lefty reliever Andrew Chafin from the Diamondbacks ahead of the trade deadline Monday afternoon.
Chafin has had a poor season, posting an 8.10 ERA in 6 2/3 innings across 11 appearances. Chafin is currently on the injured list with a sprained finger on his throwing hand, but he’s expected to be back soon.
Chafin, 30, had a 3.76 ERA in 77 appearances in 2019 and has a 3.68 ERA in his seven-year MLB career. While he has struggled this season, Chafin has been effective against lefties in his career, holding them to a .230 batting average and .616 OPS.
Chicago also acquired cash from Arizona in the deal and will send a player to be named later or cash considerations back to the Diamondbacks.
To make room for Chafin on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designated outfielder Ian Miller for assignment.
