(670 The Score) New White Sox manager Pedro Grifol plans to be the enforcer of his club, and he won’t be shy about getting on his players when necessary.

Grifol was clear that he – as opposed to newly hired bench coach Charlie Montoyo or someone else on the staff – will be the bad cop when it’s called for.

“That will be me,” Grifol said on the Parkins & Spiegel Show on Thursday afternoon. “I think the red ass will be me. Charlie is not a quiet guy but a more reserved guy. I think he’s got a little bit of an edge as well, and he can have it if he needs to. But I think he’s going to be the one taming me down a little bit.”

When he was introduced Thursday as the 42nd manager in White Sox history, Grifol outlined his vision for a new identity for the club, saying there will be a focus on playing “fundamentally sound” and with “passion.” The White Sox’s lack of maximum effort at times in the 2022 season was a source of frustration for some in the organization and certainly for fans, and it’s an issue that “will be addressed” under Grifol, general manager Rick Hahn said Thursday.

“Accountability is communicating and empowering people to do their job,” Grifol said. “Once they know the job that they need to do and how they need to prepare to do that job, then you can hold people accountable.”
